Mantegna basks in glow of Scripps Super Sage Award

LOS ANGELES - Winning awards is nothing new for actor Joe Mantegna. He has won a Tony award, been nominated for three Emmys and received numerous other honors and accolades during a stage and screen career that spans more than 40 years.

But Tuesday was something new for the Chicago native. Mantegna won the 2010 Super Sage Award trophy for having the closest prediction out of the 103 stars who participated in the 21st annual Scripps Howard Celebrity Super Bowl Poll. Mantegna received the trophy Tuesday on the set of his current TV show, "Criminal Minds."
"I haven't won an award for football," he said. "I've lost a little cash from football, but I haven't won an award before.''

Mantegna earned a Tony in 1984 for his performance as smooth-talking salesman Richard Roma in the play, "Glengarry Glen Ross." He shared the Best Actor award at the 1988 Venice Film Festival with his "Times Change" co-star, Don Ameche. He's been nominated for three Emmy awards, including for his portrayal of Dean Martin in the 1998 HBO film, "The Rat Pack." But this was his first sports award in nearly 50 years.
